"BEEN THINKIN BOUT"

I've Been Thinkin' 'Bout Priorities

I was doing my quiet-time in Psalms 90 today. He really nails how brief our time is and how to fix our priorities. Made me think about “redo’s.”  Even now my computer is telling me that’s not a word, but I argue that it is. A redo is going back and doing something all over again.

If we could recall or redo some of our life over again, which of the times would you or I include? Which ones would we go back to and change? Would it be some of the picnics, parties, Christmases, bedside prayers, summers, winters, birthdays, vacations, dogs, private conversations, corrections, black eyes, graduations, first dates, ball games, bicycles, the meal times, or one of the million other memories? Good questions…for some reading this it is a God question.

If I could “redo” I’d change some of my words. I wouldn’t blurt out some of my immediate thoughts. I would be a lot kinder and gentler. I’d have a different attitude toward the unexpected interruptions, unrealistic expectations and unimportant details. I know that I would make it so that there would be fewer frowns and more smiles. The laughter would linger longer.

But we can’t have “redo’s”. I can’t re-rear my children. I can’t redo the early heartaches of marriage. I can’t re-pastor my first church. Initial impressions cannot be remade. Memories are fixed, not flexible.

Yes, God surely forgives and most people overlook our failures and they are amazingly understanding. Our biggest task is to forgive ourselves.

I tell you what you and can do…now. We can take care of our priorities and the incidentals will fade away. We can focus on the essentials and put the important ahead of the urgent. 1 Peter 4:7-11 teaches us our priorities and God’s thought on them. How well are you doing?

I can’t “redo”, but it won’t stop me from Doing. I must get about the business of Doing what God has gifted, and purposed for me to Do. I only have this life in which to Do it in. Because when I stand before Christ I will answer for His Redo of me.

Fixin' Priorities,
